McKenzie Creek resident Neville McIntyre started the petition, which asks council to continue the area’s recycling service and extend it to more landowners.
The petition includes signatures from 48 people.
In a letter to council, Mr McKenzie said the recycling truck stopped and turned around on Old Hamilton Road.
He said it also stopped and turned around Nunkerri Road.
He said the truck could instead complete a circle loop by continuing along Old Hamilton Road and the Henty Highway to join up with Nunkeeri Road.
This would provide a recycling service to an extra 32 landholders.
Mr McIntyre said landholders would welcome a chance to reduce landfill by being included in council’s recycling program.
Council’s technical services director John Martin said the timing of the petition was fortuitous, because council was about to advertise a new tender for recycling collection.
Council staff will prepare a report on the costs and benefits of extending the service, the ability to do a pilot service in the McKenzie Creek area, and the basis of evaluating a pilot program.
The petition was an agenda item at council’s meeting on July 20, but councillors moved that it lay on the table until the next meeting on August 3.
