HORSHAM Saints senior football side has capped of a marvellous day for the club, earning the premiership triumph the club has been yearning for.
The match began as a stalemate in the opening term as both sides felt each other out.
It was a contested opening – as you would expect for a grand final – but there was plenty of outside from both sides.
Both had their chances, but it was the Saints who eventually took full toll of their opportunities.
Two goals in the back half of the opening stanza - including one on the brink of quarter-time - gave them an 18-point lead at the first change.
It was expected that the Demons would come out fired up in the second quarter, but it was the Saints who put together a sizzling term of football.
Led by big game specialist Sam Jasper, Horsham Saints piled on seven goals to one in the second term to take a 54-point lead into the main break.
The early stages of the third quarter was set to show who would run out victors, but with every goal the Demons conjured, the Saints responded perfectly.
Goals to Jordyn Burke, Rhona Conboy and Nick Pekin allowed the Demons to close the gap by the final change, and co-coach Pekin drummed into his players that they had the belief to come from behind.
But the man of the day – Sam Jasper – found himself in the perfect position in the opening minute of the last.
His fifth goal effectively sealed the contest.
Burke, Jeremy Hartigan and Beau Nelson brought some respectability to the scoreboard late in the piece, but goals to Kyle O’Connor and Heath Watson in the dying minutes ensure the Saints would not endure heartbreak again.
The Saints side was sublime from start to finish, cruising to the 16.6 (102) to 9.8 (62) win.
