Teenager Farhad Khalil Mohammad Jabar allegedly yelled religious slogans before firing one shot in the back of the head of a police finance worker Curtis Cheng.
Dressed in a black, flowing shirt and black trousers, the gunman carried out the attack outside the State Crime Command, home to the state's top detectives, in Parramatta at 4.30pm on Friday.
Police search mosque
Police executed a search warrant at Parramatta Mosque on Saturday night as part of their investigations into the fatal shooting, however they walked away empty-handed.
The chairman of the Parramatta Mosque, Neil El-Kadomi, told Fairfax Media police were searching for the boy's belongings and arrived about 7.30pm on Saturday. Read more.

PM condemns the attack
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull labelled the shooting "an act of terrorism" on Saturday.
He said the Muslim community should not be blamed or vilified for the actions of the 15-year-old boy who executed a NSW Police employee in "cold blood".
"It is a shocking crime. It was a cold-blooded murder targeting the NSW Police service. It was doubly shocking because it was perpetrated by a 15-year-old boy,” he said. Read more.
Police address the media
NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione addressed the media on Saturday morning, confirming it was a 15-year-old boy who carried out the attack.
"We believe that his actions were politically motivated and therefore linked to terrorism," he said.
The victim has been named as Curtis Cheng, a 17-year veteran of the police force. Read more.

A NSW Police Force employee has been shot dead in a double shooting outside the state's police headquarters in Sydney's west.
A police source said there had been increased "chatter" detected in the past week relating to a possible attack on the Parramatta headquarters. Read more.
