Aaron Wicks started at the Horsham-based podiatry clinic last week.
He has filled a vacancy at the clinic.
Dr Wicks, originally from Melbourne, studied in the city and then in Albury.
He has been a podiatrist for two years.
Dr Wicks has joined the Horsham team after a two year stint in Townsville.
He said his first impressions of Horsham and the region were positive.
“It’s a nice town,” he said.
Dr Wicks said he enjoyed working in a rural setting.
“I like the people, I like how friendly everyone is,” he said.
“It’s also not as busy.”
Dr Wicks said Horsham suited him.
“It’s closer to Melbourne so it is easier to travel,” he said.
Dr Wicks said he enjoyed podiatry because of the variety of work that came along with the profession.
“You can do so much with it,” he said.
“My dad is a diabetic so I am interested in that.
“I’m also interested in sports injuries.
“I have done further study and offer dry needling and foot mobilisation therapies.
“I have worked at The Athletes Foot and have a keen interest in footwear.
“I look forward to meeting the people of the Wimmera and helping them achieve their own health and fitness goals.”
He said the Wimmera clinic was a great place to continue to improve as a podiatrist.
“I just want to gain more experience,” he said.
“You’re always learning, I’ve been doing this for two years but I feel like I’m still fresh.”
Dr Wicks said as well as his professional goals at the podiatry clinic, he also had a few personal goals to achieve.
“I want to run a marathon,” he said.
“I’ve done five kilometre runs and 10 kilometre runs, but never a marathon.
“I want to join the running club here.”
Wimmera Foot and Ankle Clinic is at 90-92 Firebrace Street in Horsham.
The clinic provides assistance with a range of podiatry services including general podiatry, sports podiatry, paediatric procedures, advanced podiatric procedures and diabetic issues.
