Wimmera Development Association will host a tour of Horsham’s Grains Innovation Park on Friday.
The association’s Mark Fletcher said the day would include visits to the Australian Grains Genebank and Plant Phenomics Victoria’s automated glasshouse.
People will also visit the Australian Grains Free Air CO2 Enrichment project – AGFACE – outside Horsham.
Mr Fletcher said the grain centre’s research capabilities were a huge asset to the Wimmera.
“For the past five decades it has continued to provide and expand premium grains research and development,” he said.
“Initially focusing on wheat and cereals, it now includes pulses and oilseeds.
“Significant research investment in the region and the cluster of researchers adds significantly to our community.
“The Australian Grains Genebank’s 150 million seeds, Plant Phenomics’ state-of-the-art glasshouse, and the park’s laboratories and field trials are all investing in the region’s future.”
The tour will include presentations from seasonal risk agronomist Dale Grey and farm business economist Paul Blackshaw.
Agronomist Dale Boyd will also speak.
Mr Fletcher asked people to RSVP by Tuesday by calling 5381 6505 or emailing mfletcher@wda.org.au.
The tour will run from 10am to 4pm, and includes morning tea and lunch.
