Member for Lowan Emma Kealy said she received word on Tuesday night the school would receive $4 million from the state government.
She said this was on top of $2 million for the Warracknabeal Special Development School, announced last week.
Ms Kealy said the Warracknabeal community had a clear plan to develop a new education precinct that would combine the special development school, secondary college, and Warracknabeal Primary School.
“We’ll be doing a bit more drilling down of information to find out whether the money is for redevelopment of the secondary college on site, or whether they’ll be able to move down to the primary school to build up the education precinct,” she said.
“It is great news for the community, but it is confusing that the secondary college has been funded before the primary school, which is not in line with the master plan.
“It is very important that enough money is provided to ensure we can develop the Warracknabeal Education Precinct at the primary school site so we can deliver for the needs of students into the future.”
Ms Kealy said the funding commitment still fell short of the Liberal-National Coalition’s 2014 pre-election commitment of $8 million for the education precinct.
