The Saints defeated Ararat by 46 points, 12.20 (92) to 7.4 (46).
The Rats took on last year’s premiers with the hope of winning but after a competitive first quarter, slipped away.
With a five goal to one second quarter the Saints took control and Rats did not have the fire power to fight back.
Saints live-wire Sam Clyne showed speed and class in the midfield while Kyle O’Connor and Jacob Cooke Harrison controlled the forward line.
Gordon Laurie battled hard, putting his bigger body in each contest for the Rats.
Ararat fought back to win the third quarter, but by then the result was done and dusted.
Best for Ararat were Josh Rathgeber, Aiden Moar, Jake Robinson, Alan Batchelor, and Daniel Mendes while for the Saints Jacob O’Beirne, Ryan Bird, Sam Jasper and Nathan Clough played well.
