The students are learning the life cycle of a butterfly by hatching their own.
The students started with caterpillars, which have been in a chrysalis or butterfly pupa for two weeks.
After this stage, the caterpillars will form into butterflies.
Student Sebastian Kennedy-Branson is excited to see them hatch.
“It will happen soon and I can’t wait to see them flying around the room,” he said.
Student Selina Marks said the class was looking forward to getting an incubator in the next few weeks, which will help the class hatch eggs for their work.
The ConnectED program is designed to help students re-engage with school work.
Students start classes with quiet time and colouring in before moving their focus to fields of study they enjoy.
They also complete maths and other classes.
Teacher Sallie Koenig said the program was a fantastic educational opportunity for students.
“I love working with the children, it is really rewarding,” she said.
