Lakers players managed to hold their own for a vast majority of the game but the Kangaroos forged ahead in the second half, the final score 17.15 (117) – 7.13 (55).
The result was unexpected given the sides close proximity on the league ladder.
The Kangaroos result has shaken up the top five, they now sit in fifth position on 24 points while the Lakers are on 20 points in seventh.
Taylors Lake coach Daryl Eastwell said his side played a patchy game.
“Our inability to keep running and concentrating cost us the win,” he said.
“We played well in patches and Harrow-Balmoral came out and played a really good strong four quarters.
“Dean Harberger played a good degree of defensive play and attacked out of defence for us and Nathan Koenig battled hard for us across the ground.”
Deek Roberts was another standout for the Lakers.
Eric Guthrie and Hugh Douglas led the days scoring, kicking four goals each for the Kangaroos.
Michael Phelan and Sam Brewer were close behind, kicking three vital goals each for the side.
Hugh Douglas, Sam Brewer, Eric Guthrie, Hamish Ellis, Callum Hobbs and Anthony Close were best for the Kangaroos.
