Coach Damien Kilpatrick said it was a heartbreaking loss.
“Nine times out of ten a shot like that wouldn’t fall,” he said.
It was once again a slow start that cost the young Hornets side as it fell behind by as much as 10-points early in the second-half of a low scoring game.
“We started a bit slow,” he said.
“We weren’t running on transition like we can.
“We had to work really hard to get back, and to the boys credit they did.”
The Hornets led by 4-points with two minutes remaining on the clock in the final quarter before the Bears managed to edge back in front.
“We had our chances,” Kilpatrick said.
“I think we had more offensive shot than they did but they just weren’t dropping.”
Kilpatrick put a lot of work in the team’s fitness in the lead up to the championships and it has been paying off.
“We’re on top of the clock and running hard,” he said.
“We’re always coming home hard but we needed to do too much today.”
Kilpatrick said it was an all round performance by his side without any real standouts.
“Austin McKenzie was in foul trouble early but worked them over really hard later in the game,” he said.
“Cody Bryan was good again.
“Harley Pope finally came out of the shell and started taking shots, they weren’t falling but it was good that he was taking them.
“Ben Hobbs was on again as he always is.”
The loss means the side will finish the championships between 9th and 12th position.
The sides game tomorrow will determine whether it plays off for 9th and 10th or 11th and 12th.
“We’re desperate for that win now,” he said.
“We want to be in the top 10. We’ll regroup tonight and come out hard tomorrow.”
