She said the event would provide a platform for rural residents to meet with different security consultants and agricultural suppliers, as well as representatives from neighbourhood watch, Victoria Police, Crime Stoppers, the Victorian Farmers Federation, WorkSafe and the West Wimmera Health Service.
“It’s been set up as a result of increased crime statistics in our region. The expo will provide an opportunity for attendees to learn more about what has been and is happening in our region, with rural crimes straight from the source in Victoria Police,” Ms Penny-Paditz said.
“There will be several talks during the day from different speakers, not only those representing support agencies, but also from local businesses.” Presenters will address those present for 15 to 20 minutes.
Ms Penny-Paditz said the event would be relatively informal, with most speakers available for conversations and discussions with residents.
She said the day was organised to show producers and residents the crime prevention networks that exist in the area, while encouraging them to be proactive and create their own networks.
The expo also aims to provide displays of proactive crime prevention, better farm security and safer farm practices.
Victorian Farmers Federation president David Jochinke will open the event at 10am. Attendees will then be treated to an address from agricultural liaison inspector Jamie Templeton.
Ms Penny-Paditz said crime prevention equipment would be on show, including ear tagging, gun security tips, CCTV and other security equipment.
Farm health and safety will also be in focus, with West Wimmera Health Service providing blood pressure checks. The event runs from 10am to 4pm at Murtoa Community Centre.
