October was walk to school month and VicHealth encouraged primary school students to walk, ride or scoot to and from school.
In Hindmarsh Shire, more than 300 students walked to school.
Chief executive Greg Wood said students were more engaged in the program than previous years.
“The program highlighted the benefits of walking to children, which improved fitness level, encouraged friendships, improved self-confidence and awareness of the environment,” he said.
“Council was overwhelmed by the support provided by the schools and Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly.”
