The show will feature vocal harmonies, singalongs, popular songs, yodelling, lots of laughs, and different instruments, including a 12-string guitar, ukulele, mandolin and piano accordion.
“Sometimes we have three accordions playing at the same time. We’ve all heard of The Three Tenors. Well, we have The Three Accordions,” Graeme Howie said.
Identical twins Graeme and John Howie grew up on dairy farms in Gippsland and attended Warragul North Primary School. Their first performance as singers, at seven years of age, was at the Warragul Presbyterian Church, where they remember singing, in harmony, What A Friend We Have In Jesus.
It was about this time they started singing lessons with June Orchard at Albert Fox’s music studio in Warragul.
Upon her suggestion, they also undertook piano lessons with Irene Howells in Warragul. The pair then became secondary school music teachers. John taught Kylie Minogue at Camberwell High School.
The Howie Bros are the only Australians to have won the International Harmony Award in the US.
They also won three Golden Guitars as members of 1901. Both John and Graeme are prolific songwriters.
Their music has been compared to Foster and Allen.
The duo performs Celtic songs as well as country and gospel tunes, and has had great success with its Singalong with The Howie Brothers series of albums.
The pair has recorded 41 albums, the latest called Sentimental Favourites, in which they have collaborated with good friend Wayne Horsburgh to sing 40 of their favourite songs.
Wayne Horsburgh is Australia’s top male yodeller. He was recently elevated to the Roll Of Renown, Australian country music’s top award. Raised near Benalla, Wayne spent 25 years performing in the US with the likes of Merle Haggard, George Jones and Vince Gill.
Tickets for the Horsham show are $15 and are available at the door.
