About 14 Forest Fire Management Victoria firefighters undertook a rigorous training exercise designed to enhance their skills.
Grampians Forest and Fire Operations regional manager Peter Kambouris said the training course covered a wide range of fire fighting techniques.
“The General Fire Fighter course covers a mix of advanced theory and practical field-based exercises that allow participants to demonstrate understanding and further develop their skills,” he said.
“The training includes understanding bushfire science and fire behaviour; fire suppression techniques; fire ground safety including communication structure, hazardous trees, managing fatigue and hydration; and working around aircraft.”
Mr Kambouris said firefighters enhanced their skills in order to protect the community.
“Our firefighting teams help to reduce the risk of fire, containing outbreaks and managing environmental impacts in Victoria’s parks, forests and other public land.
“Being fully trained and operational ensures the highest levels of skill in protecting against and fighting fires.”
