The celebrations were a colourful, traditional display of the Karen culture, which included dances, presentations and delicious food.
Organiser Kaw Doh said this was the fifth year new year celebrations had been hosted at the centre and the third in which the Karen community had hosted soccer and cane ball tournaments at Davis Park.
“We had good support from the Nhill community. The celebrations went very well,” Mr Doh said.
Hindmarsh Shire mayor Debra Nelson said the Karen New Year was a beautiful celebration of history and culture. Karen communities around the world celebrate on a special day in Karen life known as Waxing Moon Day.
