Year 12 students Claire Burke and Ethan Jolley are looking forward to their year of leadership.
Ethan said he wanted to be school captain so he could help and guide people through their time at the school.
“Whether that be helping students with a query or helping them settle into school and meeting new friends,” he said.
“I'm the kind of person who goes leaps and bounds to help others.
“If I wasn't a school captain, I would still be trying to help others in the school.”
Ethan said his role was to come up with new ideas to make the school more gratifying for the students, such as lunchtime activities.
“Our other responsibility is to represent the school in community events such as Anzac Day,” he said.
Ethan said it was extremely important for every individual to take on some sort of leadership role in their school.
“Leadership builds confidence and gives the students a unique experience,” he said.
“They learn how to communicate their ideas, queries and concerns with others, and how to work effectively with other people.”
Claire said she become a school captain because she enjoyed helping others.
“I wanted to be part of helping everyone grow and achieve in our school community,” she said.
“Our focus as school captains is to make sure every student has a fair chance to make their voice heard.
“We would love to create the best school community possible, the kind of community that encourages each other, we want to provide a supportive and engaging learning environment where every student is encouraged to grow.”
Claire said so far this year, the captains have been making their faces known around the school.
“We are working on gaining student involvement with Relay For Life,” she said.
“Our focus is on students wellbeing by organising a breakfast club that runs twice a week.
“Students tend to relate to others of a similar age or those going through similar issues hence why student leaders become role models and are helpful in addressing the issues of other students.”
