Horsham police Senior Constable Kristy O’Connor said a car, which ran on gas, had caught fire.
She said there was a police road block as a precaution on surrounding streets including Madden Street and Hamilton Street.
Residents were asked to avoid the area.
A path of destruction was left on Seaby Street, Stawell, when vandals damaged several trees overnight between March 3 and 4.
Stawell Sergeant Bill Alford said police were seeking help from the public to report any information about the incident to police.
“If anyone has any information regarding this incident please either contact the Stawell police station, Acting Sergeant Malpas or Crime Stoppers,” he said.
The trees were initially planted by the Northern Grampians Shire Council as part of their street scape project.
