Entertainment co-ordinator Rick Ballinger said the event, at Horsham’s Coughlin Park, would provide a snapshot of the wide variety of music the Wimmera had to offer.
He said live musicians would include Leo Tellefson and Sandra Loats, a signing choir, WSC Band, Kessia Brooke and The Stumps.
“We have a fantastic range of artists who have all kindly donated their time to Relay For Life,” he said.
“Each band will play for about 30 minutes.”
Mr Ballenger said entertainment would start at 6.30pm on Friday.
“We are kicking off with the students from Horsham Primary School and Horsham’s Holy Trinity Lutheran School, who are involved in the signing choir,” he said.
“We then have Sandra Loats and Leo Tellefson from Donald.
“They have both been around for a long time and performed with a variety of bands over the years.
“Their vocals are quite well-known and they played at relay last year.”
The WSC Band will be up next, which is made up of students from Warracknabeal Secondary College.
“They played last year for the first time and were really well-received,” Mr Ballinger said.
“They do acoustic covers of a variety of songs.”
A new artist this year is Horsham’s Kessia Brooke.
“Kessia is an acoustic performer, who does guitar, pedal, keyboard and vocals,” Mr Ballinger said.
“She is a singer and a songwriter and she has been playing all around Victoria.
“We are looking forward to seeing her at relay this year – she has a bright future ahead of her.”
During the candlelight ceremony, Horsham’s Carly Werner will sing Amazing Grace and Catherine Harris will play the bagpipes.
Mr Ballinger said DJs from Nexus Youth Centre will entertain the crowd throughout the evening. “We also have Jeff Woodward, who has been performing with bands and artists for more than 25 years,” he said.
“He is a blues man at heart, with a very unique sound – he’s always a crowd favourite.”
Other bands and artists include Blurred Lines, Bryan Matuschka and Murtoa band The Stumps.
Mr Ballinger said The Stumps were a three-piece band that covered songs from the ‘60s to now.
“Relay will finish with Norm and Marlene McLean, who are a musical gift,” he said. Mr Ballinger said it was great to have more young people involved in this year’s event.
“Cancer affects all of us, including the young and they love getting into the spirit of relay,” he said.
“Youth are the future of the event.”
