The inaugural match attracted thousands to North Park with the bumper crowd enjoying a full day of football and netball action.
Wimmera Mallee AFL general manger Steve McQueen said the game will continue in 2018.
“Ararat has been guaranteed a return match next year against Stawell, prior to the draw being released this year just so both teams can get hosting rights,” he said.
"it is an ideal two teams to play in that match and hopefully capitalise on the visitors to the area and I see it continuing well into the future.
“It was a bit unknown as to how well it would be supported but it turned out to get an extremely good reception.”
"It was fantastic day and attracted a huge crowd,” he said.
"Swifts Football Club were fantastic with how they cooperated in the lead up and on the day and both clubs worked hard to make the day work well.”
McQueen said everyone was very open minded about the day and did not have any specific expectations regarding the success of the day.
“I honestly think which ever round Easter falls on, the game will get a big reception,” he said.
There are no plans to expand the Good Friday fixture to two games with McQueen confident Ararat and Stawell will be the only two teams playing on the Easter Friday each year.
“Never say never but these are the only two clubs that has shown any interest in hosting Good Friday,” he said.
"I would hate to take it away from them or minimise the impact by having a second match on the day, so I think just the one game is enough at this stage.”
McQueen said all clubs involved needed to be congratulated on the success of the match.
“The way it has been put together was great to see and they pulled off a great day and should be commended for their efforts,” he said.
