On a shelf at the end of the room stands a little pot of artificial flowers. They had stood there for years, had never changed in their appearance, they had never made a mess shedding leaves or petals. As close as they were to the real thing everyone could tell at a glance they were artificial so no-one had ever commented on them.

At the other end of the room was a long suffering pot plant that grew in fits and starts according to when someone remembered to water or fertilise it. In spite of the neglect it gave a continuous growth of new shoots with cascades of delicate flowers. There was always a lot of debris on the floor underneath of dead flowers and leaves needing to be cleaned up. When people called they would look at the plant and enjoy its flowers and comment favourably.
Have you ever noticed that this is like people you meet or know in life? The ones whose lives run so smoothly with nothing ever going wrong. Sometimes they are held up to you as examples to follow but it never seems to work out for you.
Most of us are like the long suffering pot plant that has a continuous stream of problems but make the best of it and still come through smiling. It is people like us who sought out Jesus, poured their hearts out to him and He set them on the right path in life. There is a misguided notion that Jesus came to save the good people in society like the artificial flowers that always look good but are lifeless on the inside, but this notion is totally wrong, He came to “seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10). Accept Him as your Saviour today by believing in Him and following Him for the rest of your life and you will be “lost” no more.
