Police officers were shocked to find the probationary licence holder driving at such high speeds at a time of poor visibility due to foggy conditions.
Horsham Highway Patrol Leading Senior Constable Alan Perry said police intercepted a 20-year-old Horsham man driving a Ford Falcon sedan at Jung at 7.50am on Friday morning.
“It was foggy that morning. He was detected driving at 171 kilometres per hour in the 80km/h zone at the railway crossing over the Wimmera Highway at Jung,” Leading Senior Constable Perry said.
“The vehicle was impounded for 30 days under the hoon legislation.
“The diver will appear in Horsham Magistrates Court at a later date on traffic offences for dangerous speeding in an 80km/h zone.”
Leading Senior Constable Perry said the driver pulled over soon after being intercepted by police.
