After the first quarter the home side played the brand of football it wanted to week in, week out on the way to recording a 12.9 (81) to 5.5 (35) win.
Burras’ coach Damian Cameron said after the first quarter it was the best his side had stuck to a strict plan set out before a game.
“It’s great to be able to do that especially against quality opposition like Stawell,” he said.
Poor accountability by the Burras allowed the Warriors to control the ball during the first quarter and the side led 20-1 at quarter time.
After composing themselves at half time the Minyip-Murtoa players took the game to Stawell. By half-time scores were level.
“We started winning the contested football in close more as the game went on,” Cameron said.
“Then our wingmen were getting a lot of the ball and delivering it to our forward who were working really hard. In the first quarter it was the other way around as Stawell were getting on top of us.”
Minyip-Murtoa continued with the momentum in the third quarter. The side had a 19-points lead with a quarter to play.
Stawell had no answers in the last quarter. The Warriors went scoreless as the home side ran out 46-point winners.
After the game Cameron was more frustrated then concerned by his side’s slow start. “For three quarters at the weekend we really controlled the game,” he said.
