The interleague side played in a group stage format against Western Border Football League and Mid South-East Football League.
Kowree-Naracoorte-Tatiara won two games and was the favourite to win the contest, but fell to Western Border at the final hurdle.
Only one player from Border Districts and Kaniva-Leeor managed to make the side after Liam Vivian and Bart Nolan pulled up injured.
Cameron Sandercock of Border Districts was a strong performer in the team’s tilt after he stepped up to fill in for the side’s early-fallen ruckman.
In the first game, Kowree-Naracoorte-Tatiara defeated Mid South-Eastern 6.2 (38) to 4.5 (29).
Sandercock managed one goal.
Kowree-Naracoorte-Tatiara then played Western Border and won by just three points, with the scoreboard reading 6.1 (37) to 5.4 (34).
Sandercock was named sixth best in the second game.
In the final, Kowree-Naracoorte-Tatiara coach Brad Richardson said his side put on a strong showing but lost by 12 points.
“I was happy with the effort of our players. I chose a very young side this year,” he said.
“This will give the KNT a nucleus for the side in years to come.”
Richardson was happy with Sandercock and his performance.
“He started in the forward line but then had to be moved into ruck. He did a good job all day,” he said.
Sandercock was named in the South-East squad – the next step in the South Australia Interleague chain.
Richardson couldn’t fault his team on effort.
“They followed instruction and I think they ran out of feet in the final quarter,” he said.
“They were all capable of matching it with a lot more experienced players. It looks good for the future.”
