Mr and Mrs Eltze were married on August 16, 1944. Since then Mr Eltze said their family had grown “too big to count”.
“We had seven children, all happy and healthy,” he said.
“They had 21 grandchildren who then had a lot of great grandchildren and eventually some great great grandchildren.”
Mr Eltze said the couple worked on an orchard, mostly growing peaches. He said they spent days with their picking bags, gathering fruit from the trees.
Mr and Mrs Eltze said they spent a great deal of time travelling.
“Most people never see Australia, but we’ve seen it nearly three times. We just crisscrossed through every state,” he said.
Mr Eltze said their golden and diamond wedding anniversaries seemed small in comparison to this year.
“A lot has happened over the years, but the most important thing to remember is to always say goodnight and love each other,” he said.
