Lamb numbers dropped a little this week with 5783 mostly new season lambs yarded.
The quality was average to good.
The regular buying group was in attendance and operating keenly in a firm to dearer market.
The lighter trade weight lambs sold $5 to $8/head dearer on last week.
Heavy young lambs sold to $178, with heavier trade weights selling from $148 to $164/head and averaging around 620c/kg cwt.
The best of the old lambs made to $161 and hogetts sold to $135/head.
Young Merino lambs sold to $131, with the older shorn lambs selling from $111 to $135/head.
Restockers were active and paid mostly from $105.50 to $120 for young lambs, and paid from $79 to $93/head for lighter lots.
Sheep: 1716. Change: up 169.
Sheep were at similar numbers with 1716 head yarded.
All weights were represented and some good runs of heavy Merino ewes were penned, they made to $123/head.
Sheep mostly sold a few dollars up on last week’s levels.
Light weight new season young lambs made to $93/head.
Light trade 2 and 3 score lambs sold from $118 to $135/head and averaged around 630c/kg cwt.
Trade weight 3 and 4 score lambs sold from $130 to $147, with the heavier lots selling from $148 to $164/head and ranging from 585c to 645c to average around 620c/kg cwt.
Heavy 3 and 4 score lambs sold from $159 to $178/head at around 605c/kg cwt.
Light weight 1 and 2 score sheep sold from $40 to $72/head.
Medium weight 2 and 3 score sheep made from $76 to $103/head with a run of Merino mutton averaging around 410c/kg cwt.
Heavy Merino ewes sold from $100 to $123, heavy Merino wethers made to $110 and medium weights sold to $86/head.
Heavy 3 to 4 score crossbred sheep sold from $76 to $101, and rams made from $30 to $96/head.
BALLARAT
September 19. Yarding: 12,179. Change: up 3228. Lambs: 8197. Change: up 2549.
Young lamb numbers increased again this week, with 8197 head yarded.
The quality was average to good, with the yarding including a lot of lighter weight young lambs needing some sunshine and milder weather.
The usual buying group attended, although not all operated fully on the limited selection of heavier lambs.
The market was mostly a firm to easier market when compared to last week’s sale.
The best heavy young lambs made to $178, with the heavier trade weights selling from $141 to $160/head, and averaging around 600c/kg cwt.
The old lamb run, now fewer in number, made to $198/head.
Restockers from local and Mallee areas were active and paid from $93 to $133/head for young lambs.
Restockers also paid to $129 for Merino wethers and paid from $82 to $118/head for Merino ewes.
Light weight new season 2 score young lambs made from $88 to $101/head.
The light trade 2 and 3 scores ranged from $110 to $132/head and averaged around 605c/kg cwt.
Trade weight 3 and 4 score young lambs sold from $130 to $147 with the heavier drafts selling from $141 to $160.50/head and ranging from 565c to 620c to average around 600c/kg cwt.
Heavy 3 and 4 score young lambs sold from $158 to $178/head and averaged around 610c/kg cwt.
The export weight old lambs mostly sold from $142 to $198, and heavy hoggets sold from $115 to $154.20/head.
Sheep: 3982. Change: up 679.
Sheep supply also increased to 3982 head, and covered all weights and grades, with more shorn Merino sheep through the yarding.
Heavy Merino wethers sold to $131.
Heavy Merino ewes made to $120 and crossbred ewes made to $124/head.
Sheep mostly sold from firm to $2/head dearer in places.
Light weight 1 and 2 score sheep sold from $48 to $80.20/head.
Medium weight 2 and 3 score sheep sold from $65 to $116.50/head and ranged from 300c to 415c, with Merino mutton averaging around 380c/kg cwt.
Heavy Merino ewes sold from $93 to $120.
Heavy Merino wethers sold from $92 to $131 and the medium weights ranged from $80 to $101/head, averaging 380c to 390c/kg cwt.
Heavy 3 to 4 score crossbred ewes made from $82 to $124/head.
A few heavy crossbred wethers sold to $131 and rams made to $93/head.

September 19. Yarding: 779. Change: up 38.
Numbers rose slightly as agents yarded 779 head of live weight and open auction cattle.
It was a mixed quality offering, with a wide range of types and conditions on offer, including some store pastoral cattle from near Port Augusta.
These cattle sold to a large field of trade and processor buyers, with the majority of these being active.
However, some were not fully active throughout the sale and overall the market sold to an easier trend.
A small number of vealers came forward, with steers selling to 315c and heifers reached 306c/kg.
Yearling steers were a mixed bunch, with some excellent trade types combined with some store lines.
The trade was active and prices ranged from mainly 262c to 288c, falling up to 10c/kg.
Feeders provided support from 244c to 266c, while restockers were active on lighter weights from 228c to 307c/kg.
Yearling heifers to the trade ranged from 254c to 292c with those to grow on ranging from mainly 258c to 274c/kg.
Grown steers and bullocks fell in number and ranged from 235c to 272c while the grown heifers returned from 235c to 263c and manufacturing steers sold to 224c/kg.
Cow numbers remained steady, with lighter types ranging from 186c to 225c.
The heavier selection ranged from mainly 230c to 248c/kg to remain firm in price.
Light weight bulls to a restocker sold to 258c, while the heavier types to the trade ranged mainly from 224c to 244c/kg.
WARRNAMBOOL
September 20. Yarding: 591. Change: up 77.
Demand remained low for cattle, with prices unchanged to 10c cheaper for most categories but 5c to 10c/kg dearer for heavy weight bulls.
Prices for better quality cows and odd better grown heifers remained equal.
A usual following of winter time buyers attended and operated on the increased sized offering.
There were very few young cattle penned in the yarding that comprised of 81 grown steers, 96 young cattle and grown heifers, 380 cows and 34 bulls.
Processors paid from 248c and 279c for single sales of C muscled yearlings and a restocker paid 276c/kg for a B2 yearling heifer.
The 1 score yearlings sold between 160c and 180c, with poor quality battling to make 100c/kg.
The average to good selection of C3 and C4 grown steers sold between 260c and 268c, with D2 grades making from 220c to 246c/kg.
The C3 and C4 grown heifers made from 230c to 254c with the D2's selling from 200c to 220c/kg.
The E1 cows sold from 130c to 188c with D1 grades between 180c and 198c/kg.
Most D2 cows were from 195c to 220c, while the good quality penning of 3 to 5 score beef cows made from 230c to 240c/kg.
Heavy weight B2 bulls sold to keener inquiry and made 268c to 278c.
D2 grades traded from 238c to 250c/kg.
