The race was at the Queensland Raceway.
Munted Racing team member Mark Cottrell said a six-inch crack appeared down the valley of the 1982 V8 Falcon EB’s engine during the five practice laps.
“We were all devastated,” Cottrell said.
“We tried one-and-a-half laps but she was spitting out oil everywhere, so we pulled her in and retired.”
It wasn’t all doom and gloom for the racing crew who ended up winning the Spirit of LeMons award.
“We stuck around and helped out where we could,” Cottrell said.
All proceeds from the race go towards the Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia.
Cottrell said the team was looking for a new engine to prepare for the next race at Winton in April.
