The Wimmera Development Association study found the waterways in Hindmarsh Shire injected $1.3 million into the economy.
The report found that the Wimmera River at Dimboola was mostly used for swimming, fishing and boating activities.
“The Wimmera River has a relatively higher number of passive day users than many other waterways in the region,” the report said.
The Wimmera River also flows through Jeparit and into Lake Hindmarsh.
In early 2017, there was insufficient water in Lake Hindmarsh for recreational activities.
However, it is a popular camping area when there is water.
Another popular waterway in Hindmarsh Shire is Nhill Lake.
The man-made recreational lake that was built in 1960.
In 2016-17, about 16,000 visited the Nhill Lake, which contributed $141,204 to the region’s economy.
