With fairy floss and show bags flying off the stands children experienced that show day sugar rush.
They eagerly waited for their turns on the mechanic bull – seeing who could hold on the longest. Roaming the grounds was a friendly dinosaur that children approached with caution before running away.
While the children took part in all the show activities, parents watched from a far enjoying the fresh air and the social occasion.
Families from near and far ventured out to Murtoa to experience all the fun at this year’s show.
Murtoa Agricultural Society secretary Christine Wills said it was wonderful to have support from all over the Wimmera to make the day as successful as it could.
“It is fantastic to see that we are drawing a crowd from across the region and even interstate. It helps us just that extra bit more,” she said.
Ms Wills said show-goers were “blessed” with a lovely day, which made the Murtoa Show a great family event.
She said the show was an important occasion for the Murtoa townspeople – a chance for the community to gather in a relaxed atmosphere.
“The day was calm and relaxing from start to finish,” she said.
“Today showed that this is a great social event for people to bring their families and talk to friends,” she said.
Ms Wills said leading up to the big day the committee was calm and she was pleased to see “everything that was asked for came.”
“The show bags prove yet again to be the most popular where keys were lining up to grab their bag full of chocolate and lollies,” she said.
“Once again the horse program was a success. The Murtoa Show wouldn’t be anything without.”
Show-goer Cameron Turnbull travelled from Bendigo with his six year old son Lachlan Turnbull for the Murtoa Show.
Mr Turnbull said the Murtoa Show was a lot different to the Bendigo Show.
“In Bendigo the show is a lot busier. Today we have just been relaxing and enjoying everything here as a family,” he said.
Lachlan said there were two parts to the show that he enjoyed the most.
“The bull was fun … I liked my show bag, it’s filled with lots of lollies,” he said.
Show-goer Katherine Liatis attended the Murtoa Show after travelling from Melbourne.
She said it was not the first show in Murtoa that she has visited.
“My grandparents live in Murtoa so, I have been to lots of shows here,” she said.
“It’s a really fun day to spend with my family.”
She said she could not pick her favourite part about the show.
“I’ve liked everything. I’ve been on the mechanical bull, went through the pavilion and ate a lot of lollies,” she said.
Patchwork Jungle vendor Kim O’Donnell said it was a wonderful and beautiful day.
“It has been well patronised with a lot of activities,” she said.
“Fairy floss has been the biggest seller, the kids love it.”
Ms O’Donnell said the happy faces were the most memorable part about the Murtoa Show.
“Everyone has been relaxed, smiling and really enjoying their time,” she said.
