The pulse field day, at a property located 10 kilometres south of Rupanyup, will run on Thursday, October 26 from 9am until 1pm, covering a wide range of topics ranging from sowing to marketing.
The field day leads into a Pulse Australian forum in the afternoon.
International guest speakers will provide insights and updates to those in attendance on pulse marketing.
Agriculture Victoria senior research agronomist Jason Brand said the day offered growers a chance to hear the latest information on pulses and also visit field trials.
“Our speakers will talk about lentil, chickpea, field pea and faba bean agronomy,” Dr Brand said.
“There will also be information on pulse varieties for sowing in 2018 including a new field pea, herbicide tolerance of pulses, the effect of sowing time and sowing rates on yields and disease, the management of pulse diseases and pulse markets.
“These two days present a terrific opportunity for both existing and new pulse growers to hear a range of information which will help them with producing high quality, high yielding pulse crops.”
Dr Brand said researchers, breeders, industry agronomists and grain marketers would be in attendance to answer questions at the field day.
There will also be a tour of the pulse growing trial sites with the guest presenters and the day will conclude with lunch.
The day is co-ordinated by Agriculture Victoria through the “Southern Pulse Agronomy” and “Pulse Breeding Australia” projects.
The two projects are supported by the Grains Research and Development Corporation.
The event is also supported by Seednet and PB Seeds.
Speakers include Pulse Breeding Australia breeders, pulse pathologists, pulse industry specialists and grain marketers.
A free lunch will be provided at the Rupanyup community centre followed by the marketing forum run by Pulse Australia from 2pm to 5pm.
