President of the Central Wimmera Tennis Association said a group of coaches would be heading to Horsham from January 22 to 25.
“We have a tentative booking for a professional coach to help teach juniors some technical things about tennis,” she said.
“The volunteers and parents do a fantastic job coaching the kids, but we need someone here who can help teach the kids the small things that you wouldn’t even think of.
“For example, the correct way to hold a racquet, how to play a smash, top-spin and technical aspects of tennis.”
Perkin said the junior program in the region had grown this year, and bringing in a professional coach would continue to help kids improve their game.
“The junior tennis here is fantastic and we’ve gained more teams this year,” she said.
“In the long run we are aiming to have a coach come here once a week.
“It’s very positive for junior tennis in the region.”
Haven junior co-ordinator Sue Exell said a professional coach would be a great addition to the region.
“We would love to have the juniors learning from a professional coach,” she said.
“It would be great if we could have someone here permanently to help the juniors.”
