The scholarships of $1000 each were given to Tha Blay Sher from Nhill and Muh Muh Maw Kay who were both refugees from the Karen community.
Tha Blay said she was honoured.
“Receiving a scholarship means that I’m seen as having potential for the future of our society. It will boost my confidence to continue my education in the social science sector,” she said.
Tha Blay hopes to work with refugee settlement, assimilation and welfare and to help develop policies in the area in the future.
She said the scholarship would assist with travel costs.
Wimmera campus head Geoff Lord said he was delighted to host the new series of scholarships.
“Tha Blay Sher and Muh Muh Maw Kay are both outstanding university students who are achieving great things for themselves and their community,” he said.
