The Horsham Motorcycle Club held a replica event of the world junior championships – the first Australian club to do so.
Club president Kenny Watts said it was a great weekend of racing.
“It all went really well. We had 225 riders competing, which was about what we were expecting,” he said.
“We had a good regional turnout and families were there too. The replication of the MX world juniors has never been run in Australia before. Our club is the first to have done it, which is really cool.
“It was a bit of a coup for the club to be able to run that. It was good for the riders but also the club so we can understand how those world juniors are run.”
Watts said the whole weekend went well, with top quality riders from around Australia rubbing shoulders with riders from the Wimmera region.
“There were a lot of Horsham riders and club members competing at the weekend,” he said.
Reigning Australian 125cc junior champion Regan Duffy was the fastest rider in the 125cc junior category.
New South Wales riders Blake Fox and Tyler Darby were second and third fastest respectively.
Saturday provided a chance for the Horsham Motorcycle Club and riders to reflect on the life of Bronte Holland – a club member and top junior rider who died in 2009 and the age of 21.
Darby won the Bronte Holland Memorial 125cc Cup with Michael Murphy coming in second. Horsham rider Cory Watts finished third for the second year in a row.
“It was a good event with some great racing,” Kenny Watts said.
