Balmoral K-12 Community College teacher Emily Hicks shaved off her hair on Friday afternoon at the school. She participated in the World’s Greatest Shave in 2008 and 2012.
Miss Hicks said she was nervous during the shave because of two reasons – the clippers were not working well and students were cutting her hair. However, she said it was great to see the student’s excitement.
“The kids were really excited. I don’t think they could’ve got any closer to me if they wanted to,” she said.
Miss Hicks said she felt free after the shave was over.
“We ended up using scissors because the clippers weren’t working and then one of the teachers got the razor out and shaved my head completely bald,” she said.
“My head felt like shark skin – smooth one way and like velcro the other way.”
She said she managed to raise more than her goal of $2000.
“Raising more than my target makes me feel amazing and so grateful that I have such generous and supportive people in my life,” she said.
Miss Hicks hoped to participate in the fundraiser in future years to come.
“It’s only hair, it grows back, but the fundraising is so important to those in need, so why wouldn’t I be brave and shave?” she said.
