Moyston Sheep Dog Club president Max McLean said the event had seen its “best crowd ever”.
“It’s impossible for a more exact estimate but we sold out of food on Friday, Saturday and Sunday,” he said.
“It was absolutely a fitting tribute to our 90th year.”
The event brought workers and their dogs from as far away as the Port Augusta region, with competitors from Ballarat, St Arnaud, all across Victoria and up to the NSW border region putting their skills to the test in rounding up sheep.
More than 100 competitors participated in the event across multiple divisions.
Winner of the Open Trial was Andrew Ireland from Port Broughton, SA with his working dog ‘Oakdowns Byn’.
Kevin Wilson working his dog ‘Old Mill Will’ was the winner of the Improvers Trial.
Mr McLean said it was Mr Wilson’s first prize in a dog trial.
Mr McLean said the trials were a great success with record attendances and many life members coming back for the 90th event.
Member for Lowan Emma Kealy came down on Saturday to present the prizes for us just as they did in the early years when the club asked the region’s politicians to attend and present the prizes.
Ms Kealy and the oldest member of the ‘Burke Family’, the event’s major sponsor, Shirley Davis, cut the cake to celebrate the occasion.
