The side took on minor premier Brimpaen in an extremely tight tussle that came down to the final sets of the day.
It was Telangatuk East’s fourth straight grand final appearance, but the first time the team went home with the title.
The final score was Telangatuk East seven sets and 92 games to Brimpaen seven sets and 83 games.
Telangatuk East got out to an early lead, winning four of the first five rubbers.
However, Brimpaen was determined to not go down without a fight, winning the next four sets.
Luke Dunn was a standout for Brimpaen, winning all his rubbers for the day, including a 9-1 win over Daniel Rogers in the men’s singles.
However, Telangatuk East’s number one man Matt Jones was just as good and didn’t drop a set all day.
The teams were even on sets going into the final two rubbers of the match.
In the penultimate set, Brimpaen’s Dunn and Daniel Smith had a vital 9-3 win over Daniel Rogers and Peter Rogers to stay in the match.
But Telangatuk East were too strong in the end, with it all riding on the final doubles rubber between Telangatuk East women Jorja Jones and Fiona Price and Brimpaen’s Amanda Britten and Hette French.
Telangatuk East was too strong, with the women winning nine games to five.
Telangatuk East’s Peter Rogers said it was great to finally win a grand final.
“It took us a while to get here,” he said.
“Commiserations to Brimpaen – they are a really good team and we get on well with them.
“They are a great team to play against but unfortunately it didn’t work out for them this time.
“Back luck to them – we know exactly how they feel.
“There is always next year though.”
Rogers said the men on his side played well on Saturday but the Telangatuk East women had carried the team all season.
“It came down to the last few sets and our women carried us again, so well done to them,” he said.
Rogers said overall it was a great day, and everything ran smoothly.
He also thanked Central Park Tennis Club for letting his side use their courts throughout the season.
“Our courts are being worked on and hopefully they will be fixed by next year,” he said.
