HORSHAM’S city garden estate residents met with Horsham Rural City Council to address concerns about the state of wetlands surrounding their houses.
Residents presented a petition to council at a meeting on February 5 to which councillors agreed to hear the residents concerns at a meeting on March 2.
Technical services director John Martin said council is undertaking water quality sampling in the wetland that will be compared to water in the Wimmera River, Wotonga Basin and Police Paddock. He said the level of silt will also be investigated.
Mr Martin said the outcome of the investigations will be communicated with residents.
He said council will consider drying and desilting the wetlands depending on the results, which could facilitate a reduction of ribbon weed.
