National Broadband Network construction has started in parts of the town to allow about 500 homes and businesses to connect to the service.
NBN local Victoria and Tasmania manager Ebony Aitken said it was an exciting time for the community.
“Over the coming months, you can expect to see NBN Co contractors performing construction work to build the infrastructure that will deliver broadband services over the NBN access network,” she said.
“We’re working hard to roll the network out as quickly as we can with as little disruption as possible, and we appreciate your patience while construction is underway.
“Once complete, you’ll be able to order a plan through your preferred phone and internet provider.
“We encourage residents to start shopping around to find a provider and plan that suits their needs.”
Work is continuing to connect Warracknabeal’s main business district and the centre of Donald to the fixed line network.
Construction is also underway in Ararat and Stawell.
More than 9000 homes and businesses in the Wimmera region can or have connected to the National Broadband Network so far.
NBN Co has until 2020 to complete the network’s rollout across Australia.
