“I’ve spoken to a few people to see what we need to do against Kalkee to try and make it a good contest,” he said.
“In training we’ve been trying to back our skills more and making sure when we do attack, we have some more polish around the ground.
“We want to be attacking and in the first couple of games we have obviously died down after half time. We want to be more competitive after half time and keep the intensity up this week.”
The Lakers have had a tough draw to start the year, playing Jeparit-Rainbow, Harrow-Balmoral and now the Kees.
“I’m happy playing these top teams,” Smith said.
“Hopefully in a few weeks when we play the lower sides, we will be better for it and we will be better prepared.”
Smith said he was expecting a well-drilled Kalkee side.
“I’ve played with Stuart Farr and I know what he brings to a club,” he said.
“He gets a lot out of the players he coaches, so he will know exactly what they need to do. They will be very physical and we will have to ride the big hits with them, and try to attack them too.”
