“Last week was tough for us,” he said. “We came into the game with injuries but that’s no excuse for us. We looked like we didn’t want to be there.”
“From start to finish we just weren’t in it,” Smith said.
“Most teams have one of these games. That was a bad one for us but it was a bit of a wake up call that players need to work harder.”
Smith said his side was focusing on bringing back their pace and running style of football during training this week.
“At training we are trying to build the energy back that we brought to the first two games,” he said.
“We are just trying to get that spark back so we can try and bring that energy to the game. I’m hoping this week we can get back to the form and running style of football we had in the first two games where we were much more competitive.”
Natimuk United is coming out of a hard-fought loss against arguably the league’s best side in Harrow-Balmoral.
The side has been nursing some injuries, with in-form forward Jaydon Stiles again sustaining an injury against the Southern Roos after missing round three with a groin complaint.
After starting the season with two wins and two losses, the Rams will be hoping for a solid run of form to stamp themselves as serious flag contenders.
