Carey sustained the injury in the first five minutes of the match against Edenhope-Apsley but continued on, playing out the rest of his 200th match in pain.
“I went to the specialist during the week and they did an x-ray which confirmed it was broken,” Carey said.
The 2017 Dellar medallist will undergo surgery on Friday. Carey’s injury could not come at a worse time for the Baggies who are shaping up for a massive clash against Harrow-Balmoral one week after suffering their first loss of the season.
Carey said it will be a good challenge for his side to have to bounce back against a quality opposition.
“Harrow hasn’t seemed to slow down at all,” he said.
“They have been pretty solid and they always seem to find a way to win even when they are in a tussle.
“It is an exciting task for us to play them on their home ground.”
Carey said increasing pressure is the key area his side needs to improve on.
“Hopefully we can get back to hunting the football and applying pressure like we did last year,” he said.
“Not only does the pressure need to be on when we attack but also when we defend. It slipped away on Saturday so we will be looking to get it back.”
Swifts will welcome back experienced midfielder Daniel Parkin to the side for Saturday’s game to help fill the void Carey leaves.
Swifts forward Ben Martin is also in doubt for the clash with a recurring foot injury.
