Planning and economic director Angela Murphy said council was searching for a mobile cafe to establish itself near Sawyer Park’s soundshell in Horsham.
She said it has been a long-desire for council and the community to see a cafe along the river.
“Horsham’s council plan and ongoing community feedback has identified the Wimmera River as being one of the key attributes of the city,” she said. “Council sees a cafe by the river as one way of increasing activity in the area.”
Ms Murphy said the cafe would be a great advantage for both Horsham residents and visitors.
“Having a hospitality service along the river means we can use the Wimmera River corridor to contribute to Horsham’s economy,” she said. “Other benefits would be the ability to incorporate and showcase local produce as well as promoting our river as a key community recreational asset.”
Ms Murphy said a trial period of 12 months was set to gauge patronage. She said council would also assess any site-related issues with a view to inform council about the nature of the business model, infrastructure and regulatory requirements for the longer term.
However, she said interested parties are also welcome to submit an alternative proposal.
Ms Murphy said expressions of interest will closed on June 18.
