Sergeant Phil McClure said a man walked into a Hopetoun house on Toole Street while the owner, a 97 year old man, was asleep in a chair.
“When the man woke up the trespasser promptly left,” he said.
“The owner woke to a man looking around his house, when he asked what the man was doing the person said he was checking the locks and left.”
Sergeant McClure said this was a reminder for community to make sure they locked their doors whether they were home or away.
“There was nothing taken,” he said.
“The owner didn’t leave a description of the man other than he was wearing a dark coloured hoodie.”
