Befitting of the reverence with which the Horsham Greyhound Racing Club holds for the late Doug Hughes as a life member and pioneer of Wimmera greyhound racing, the two heats of his memorial race were taken out by local trainers last Tuesday.

The first heat was won by Go Barny Go for Garry George (Beulah).
Beginning well from box eight, Go Barny Go stalked the early leader Kraken Copper and took the whole length of the straight to overhaul the Helen Hartigan (Horsham) trained runner in the very last stride.
Go Barny Go would have taken enormous benefit from the run given he had missed a few weeks from the track after running three consecutive seconds.
The second heat was taken out by debutant Artistic Genius for Heather Baxter(Murtoa).
In a reverse of Go Barny Go’s fortunes, Artistic Genius had to fight all the way home to hold on by a head from the race favourite, Cindy’s Mate.
Unfortunately for the three local greyhounds, they drew the three outside boxes for tomorrow’s final while Cindy’s Mate gains the inside draw and could prove the hardest to beat.
All on course will be hoping for a local victory when the final jumps at 3.52pm.
Wedged between the two Doug Hughes Memorial heats was Race 2.
Ian Bibby made up part of an early winning run by locals with Crymelon Annie comfortably taking out the 410m event from kennel-mate Crymelon Victory.
The in-form kennels of Cliff and Pat Smith were at it again in Race 10 when Atlantic Rose took advantage of a small field of six to run over the top of the early leaders in taking out the 410m race.
It was the fourth win for the short course sprinter with all of them coming at the Horsham Track.
Tomorrow’s meet will also see the return of 410m track record holder Circus Oasis.
Befitting the reverence the Horsham Greyhound Racing Club holds for the late Doug Hughes ... the two heats of his memorial race were taken out by local trainers last Tuesday.
Race 8 will be his first appearance at Horsham since smashing the clock back in April.
With his first inside draw for quite a while it should see him saluting, and probably the best bet of the day.
