The fan on the wood fireplace in our lounge room came to a screaming halt almost as soon as the jet engines powered down on my husband’s aircraft when he landed in Western Australia for two weeks’ work.

So while Kym was working hard and enjoying the relatively tropical heat interstate, I was working hard trying to feel any heat at all in my arctic state.
My husband is constantly maintaining parts of our home, so when he is absent, my world literally starts falling apart around me.
On the day after his return home, Kym had the heater pulled apart, the fan out, the issue diagnosed and parts ordered.
Marrying an aircraft technician has worked out pretty well for me.
Unfortunately, my husband also had to spend some time under the bonnet of the family car on his return, because not long after he picked up his hire car in Perth, our family vehicle decided to go on strike.
I imagine it doesn’t like the cold weather very much.
While Kym’s replacement of the battery, spark plugs and fuel injectors now has us back on the road in our regular ride, we did have to make do with a borrowed car for a week.
Luckily, Kym and about seven mates have a pool car up their sleeves for just such an emergency as ours.
The girls and I scraped off the ice, piled in, ramped up the heater to max, fogged up the windows and hit all of our usual, routine routes.
Being in a strange transport, we were confused about the number of people smiling and looking at us - maybe lots of lovely strangers owned the same style of car we had on loan.
Always a busy time of conversing, lecturing, panicking and planning, our time in the car is rarely contemplative.
When a quiet moment did finally arrive, we all breathed deeply, fogging up the inside of the car more and looked around us.
We immediately made the shocking discovery that invisible hand-drawn pictures had appeared in the steam.
On display were artistic impressions of the intimate parts of the male anatomy.
Girls dived in every direction engaging jumper sleeves as erasers furiously removing the entertaining and educational images.
How, when, why, what and who?!
