In a tight contest, the Swifts overcame a four-goal first-quarter deficit to finish the game five goals in front of Kalkee.
It was an inspired performance from the Swifts who lost to Kalkee by 20 goals in round seven.
The Swifts are on 48 points following the win, two games ahead of the Kees who are in seventh. With one game to play the Swifts have secured their first finals berth in more than 10 years.
Swifts coach Courtney Morrow said it was an emotional day.
“It was very emotional after the game, especially since we lost by so much last time to them,” she said.
“Everyone was just really excited. I think it is still sinking in to be honest.”
Morrow, who coached the A Grade team in its return season following an absence in the top tier competition in 2016, said it was a special feeling.
“It means so much that I have been able to a part of a team that goes from winning five games to making finals,” she said.
Swifts netball director Naomi Hoffman said she believed it had been more than 15 years since Swifts played in an A Grade final.
“We believe the last time we were there was in 2002. It has definitely been more than 10 years,” she said.
Meanwhile, Laharum gained four points against Harrow-Balmoral to go very close to securing the minor premiership.
Laharum co-coach Rebecca McIntyre said her side put in a solid defensive performance in the 51-33 home win
“It was one of our better defensive games. I think we adjusted well to the rain and conditions,” she said.
“Ema Iredell was awesome and really quick. She played a tighter game and so did Erin Mellington. When Harrow-Balmoral moved the ball forward they shot really well, but we just made sure we had one-on-one match-ups all the way up the court.”
Harrow-Balmoral’s solid percentage should see the side clinch a top-six position this week.
Southern Roos A Grade coach Amy Lewis said the loss to Laharum was a tough one.
“I felt we were better as the game went on but we had a really bad start,” she said.
“I’m pleased with how the girls continued to get better and carry on. Hopefully we can get a win and play finals but it’s super interesting. Laharum has set the bar but anything can happen in finals.”
In the other games, Pimpinio had a close five-goal win against Rupanyup while Noradjuha-Quantong dominated Taylors Lake, winning 58-9. Jeparit-Rainbow, Edenhope-Apsley and Natimuk United all had the bye.
