Dominant second and fourth terms allowed the Burras to come out on top in a 15.14 (104) to 9.3 (57) win which ended the Saints hopes of a top-three finish.
Outgoing Burras coach Damian Cameron said it was pleasing to end on such a high note.
“It was massive result,” he said.
“All we wanted to do was go out and have a crack to finish our season on a high.
“We had 21 blokes stand up today – we didn’t come up with some master plan or game style it was a just about having a fair dinkum dip.”
Two late goals in the first quarter allowed the Burras to draw level by the first break after the Saints had established an early lead.
The side then dominated throughout much of the second quarter by winning repeated centre clearances while the Saints struggled the stop the side streaming forward.
“After we kicked those couple of goals late in the first we were able to take momentum away from the Saints,” Cameron said.
“We changed a few positions around in the second because we knew the Saints midfield and backline is often their key – we wanted to combat that.
The guys we moved really had an impact to set us up.”
The Burras kicked six goals to one in the second quarter to lead by 39 points at the main break.
Through the third quarter the Saints worked back into the contest.
The side kicked four unanswered goals to trail by 14 points with a quarter to play.
Cameron said he was a little nervous at the end of the third quarter.
“There was a slight breeze and most of the goals were kicked to the end we were heading in the last so I knew we had that little bit of help,” he said.
“We were able to slow them down a little at the end of the third and then carry it on in the last.”
A six goal to one final quarter secured the comfortable win 47-point win for the home side.
Brayden Ison kicked seven goals for the Brurras and was one of his side’s best along with Jae McGrath.
For the Saints Bowen Friend played a strong game in defence while Jarred Combe managed five goals in a losing effort.
“That was just a great game to be involved in,” Cameron said.
“I’m glad we finished my coaching stint at the Burras on that sort of note.
“Guys that have had good years had a great game and guys that haven’t been as good stepped up as well.”
The loss means the Saints finished the regular season in fourth and will face Warrack Eagles in an elimination final at Nhill next week. The Burras finished sixth.
