A quiet day is appreciated after a busy week of racing where there was plenty of local success had on the track.
Thursday night Judy O’Neill travelled back to Adelaide’s Angle Park and if the 4.5-hour journey wasn’t enough she had to endure the indignity of waiting until race 12 to witness Lilly An’ Page give the South Australians a race lesson in field sense and desire to win.
After settling last early from box two, Lilly An’ Page started to get into her work down the back straight and looked to be travelling well before running into a wall of tiring dogs, and even halfway up the short straight looked as if she would miss a place.
However, the smallest of gaps appeared and the daughter of Deville showed the finishing burst her father was capable of to explode through the line for a half-length win. Such was the finish that the race caller didn’t pick Lilly An’ Page in the run until after the line.
The win was her fifth from 24 starts to go with ten minor placings with many more to come judging by Thursday’s run.
Back at Horsham on Friday, Shayne Fisher put the writing on the wall for locals with a placing in each of the first two races. Then Ian Bibby stepped up with two of his Crymelon dogs running the quinella in Crymelon Phantom and Crymelon Rip (trained by Heather Baxter) in race three. In doing so, they tipped out Peter Carter’s On the Take for third and the local trifecta paid $75.00 for what was the first three in the TAB market.
Race six saw Kraken Copper salute for Helen Hartigan over 485m. Beginning from box two, the striking fawn dog with a distinctive white tip on his tail led his rivals off the mat and gave nothing else a chance and drawing away at the end to record a three-length victory.
He paid $4.10 on the TAB and those who followed Friday’s article would be celebrating.
Kraken Copper has been an honest campaigner for Hartigan having won almost a quarter of his starts and at just two years of age looks to have a bright future as he builds strength and experience.
Tomorrow the club hosts its third meeting in eight days and the 12 race program gets under way at 3.47pm.
