The players finished on 26 votes each to take out the title as voted on by opposition clubs.
This season was Taurau’s return to the Warriors after stints in Ballarat in the last few years. He has had a standout year, regularly finishing in the best for the Warriors.
“It was probably the most enjoyable year I have had for a long time,” Taurau said.
“I had a lot of enjoyment back in my football with a fair bit of consistency which is the main thing.”
The Warriors missed out on the finals this year but Taurau said he thought his side’s season was strong.
“We got off to a slow start but getting some new coaches got us back on track to enjoying our footy,” he said.
“A lot of credit goes to the committee for making a few tough calls which proved be some good ones too.”
Peters was not in attendance on the night. He had a standout year for the Eagles, helping them to another finals berth.
He also picked up the 2018 Wimmera Mail-Times champion footballer award, recording 75 votes over a dominant season.
