McCullagh is a great fan of Horsham’s redeveloped track as evidenced by the fact that Summer Skye has now had 15 starts on the track for seven wins and six placings.
By winning the President’s Cup event Summer Skye has jumped to the lead of the Horsham Greyhound of the Year table from the Cliff Smith trained Atlantic Rose.
In accepting the trophy McCullagh stated: “She is no champion, but she is in really good form at the moment which is extremely rewarding when you have done everything with them from choosing their breeding to whelping, breaking and racing.”
Summer Skye, the daughter of Fernando Bale and Motorette, has now accumulated more than $45,000 in prize money from her 44 start career (14 wins and 15 minor placings) and recently taken the successful step up to metropolitan racing having won at the Meadows a couple of weeks ago.
As expected, Rig Fifty Five for Bill Hartigan, the sole local representative in the President’s Cup, led for a long way but was unable to withstand the pressure to finish fourth but only 1.75 lengths from Summer Skye.
In other local news, Chops Malone recorded his second win in his last three starts for Pat Smith defeating the Heather Baxter Trained Digger’s Cove over the 410m journey.
Both have shown enough in their so far short careers that more wins should be on the horizon, particularly Digger’s Cove who will line up in race two on Tuesday over 410m and looks capable of fighting out the finish.
Tuesday’s meeting is the last before a short hiatus for the Horsham Show and Jar Man should continue his outstanding recent form by taking out race seven for Cliff Smith.
Drawn in box eight, Jar Man should get plenty of early room to spear across the field and his best time is about six lengths quicker than any of the other runners at the Horsham track.
Tuesday’s run comes off the back of a win at Bendigo on Friday.
Race seven comes around at 5.42pm after a first race at 3.16pm.
