Committee members have lined-up three huge days of family-friendly activities. 

Murtoa’s Big Weekend committee chairman David Grigg said the annual event has shown year-after-year that “a little town does have a lot to give.”

The Murtoa Show will kick off the jam-packed program with classic show favourites attracting show-goers. The Stick Shed has also opened its doors for the entire weekend. 

But, the Lake Marma family fun and film night is expected to be today’s biggest drawcard. 

Mr Grigg said the free community night at Lake Marma attracted a large crowd last year and he expects a similar reaction. He said the evening will finish with a spectacular display of fireworks over the lake.

To begin Saturday’s festivities, a Monster Street market will be take over McDonald Street. Running in conjunction with the markets will be a show and shine, which will keep vehicle enthusiast entertained.

An art exhibition at the Murtoa Mechanics Hall and the Water Tower Museum will be open on Saturday and Sunday. 

Mr Grigg said the Murtoa Cup will once again be a huge attraction for Saturday’s festivities.

The last day of Murtoa’s Big Weekend will see the return of a Rainbow Colour Run. 

Mr Grigg said the Stick Shed was an attraction that was well-received each year.

“The acoustics sound amazing and it is a different experience for every person, each time they visit,” he said.        

Mr Grigg said the jam-packed program was filled with massive events that hold their own. But, he said the community plays a huge role in making each event successful. 

“The community is the back bone of each event. They have embraced it and drive the events with their constant support each year,” he said. “The community really admires and appreciates Murtoa and it’s their pride that helps make these events so successful.”
